Scope

Durack Civil has been engaged for the design and construction of the Cooroora Creek Bridge replacement and a temporary side track, which includes demolishing the existing bridge. The project involves the design and construction of a 19-meter-long, single-span PSC deck bridge over Cooroora Creek, as well as the construction of a temporary traffic diversion and permanent approach roadworks. The scope includes early geotechnical and hydrological investigations, full bridge design, piling works, FRP abutments, deck unit installation, bridge railing and guardrail installation, and stone-pitched abutment protection. Additionally, the project requires the construction of a temporary culvert crossing, the removal of the existing dilapidated bridge, and extensive earthworks, including excavation, pavement construction, and line marking while managing live traffic conditions. The works are being carried out in a major ‘Purple’ waterway with fish passage considerations and in an area of cultural significance, requiring careful environmental and heritage management. The project also presents challenges such as working in a live creek environment during the wet season, managing rain event risks, and operating within live traffic conditions involving heavy and oversized vehicles. Located approximately two hours west of Rockhampton, this remote project underscores Durack Civil’s ability to deliver complex infrastructure solutions while maintaining environmental, cultural, and safety standards.
