Scope

Durack Civil was engaged by Gladstone Regional Council to deliver the rehabilitation of Round Hill Road, a critical regional transport link experiencing long-standing pavement performance issues and poor drainage. The project involves the widening and stabilisation of a 700-metre section of road, with works including earthworks, trimming and reworking of existing materials, subgrade preparation, in-situ stabilisation, and the placement of new gravel pavement layers. Stormwater management is a key component, with the installation of erosion and sediment controls, concrete batters, and reshaping of drainage lines to improve long-term resilience. Final surfacing includes a two-coat bitumen seal and guardrail installation.

All works are being carried out under live traffic conditions, requiring precise traffic management planning to ensure safety and minimise disruptions. The project is highly interdependent, with a complex program where nearly all activities are on the critical path. Durack Civil has prioritised forward planning, transparency, and proactive collaboration with Council to ensure successful delivery. Through innovation and value engineering, Durack has identified cost-saving opportunities and alternative methodologies, enabling the potential expansion of scope and increased overall value for the client.
