Floraville Stages 4a, 5, 6, 7

Durack Civil has been engaged by Burke Shire Council to deliver the DRFA restoration works for Floraville Road Stages 4a, 5, 6 and 7, following damage sustained during the 2023 flood and monsoon events. Floraville Road is a critical section of National Highway 1, providing essential access for community travel, freight and regional connectivity. The project involves large-scale pavement reconstruction and drainage upgrades to restore asset condition, improve resilience and ensure safe, reliable operation under future flood conditions.

The scope of works has included the demolition and replacement of full-width culverts, construction of concrete batters, edge beams and floodways, extensive clearing and grubbing, topsoil stripping, bulk excavation and embankment construction, in-situ stabilisation of existing pavements, processing and placement of gravel materials, construction of new pavement layers, two-coat bitumen spray sealing, installation of road furniture and linemarking, and establishment of mobile camp facilities with associated upgrades.

The project has presented significant logistical and operational challenges due to its remote location, high material volumes and the requirement to coordinate works across multiple active sites. Large daily water demands sourced from a local river, long-distance haulage of binders and quarry materials, limited accommodation availability, and strict delivery windows due to seasonal weather risks require detailed planning and disciplined execution.

Maintaining safe traffic access on National Highway 1, coordinating stabilisation and sealing activities within narrow weather windows, and managing environmental, cultural and quality compliance across a high-output program are critical to successful delivery.
