The project addresses landslips, damage to pavements and scouring around culverts. The scope of work involves stabilising slopes through soil nail installation, rockfall mesh and shotcreting. It also includes tasks such as hand and mechanical scaling, removal of landslip material, reinstatement of batters using rock fill, pavement and drainage improvements, and culvert repair and replacement.
A key challenge for this project is complex scheduling of work across multiple fronts in localities experiencing high roadwork fatigue. It has been important to ensure timely and targeted engagement via established distribution lists and face to face engagement such as doorknocking to ensure our client’s customers are well informed of project benefits and expected impacts. Given the high traffic on the roads, comprehensive traffic management is crucial to maintain continuous operations. Additionally, the project involves working within koala habitat zones and cultural heritage sites, with all relevant approvals and procedures in place.
The recovery works are jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
Resilience works on Currumbin Creek Road, Beaudesert–Nerang Road, Nerang–Murwillumbah Road, Tamborine–Oxenford Road are part of the 2021–22 Betterment Program to build back better and improve the resilience of the road network. This extraordinary disaster assistance is also being provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State DRFA.
