Scope

Durack Civil has been engaged by Balonne Shire Council to undertake the Bollon-Dirranbandi Bridge and Furnlee Culvert remediation works required from 2021 SEQ Rainfall and Flooding event. Scope of works included concrete works, conducting pavement and culvert repairs, and managing the backfilling of structures A significant challenge arose due to the long distance between the nearest concrete batch plant and the culvert site. This distance made it impractical to transport conventional concrete mixes efficiently. Consequently, we had to explore and implement alternative mix designs capable of maintaining performance over long distances, ensuring timely and effective delivery of repairs to the culvert site. In response to the culvert being submerged underwater due to persistent wet conditions, an alternative high-resistance flowable grout fill was proposed to be poured in between the culvert legs. This alternative methodology was employed to meet the structural requirements of the culvert despite the challenging environmental conditions. By utilizing this innovative approach, we were able to ensure the integrity and stability of the culvert, effectively addressing the adverse effects of prolonged submersion.
