Scope

Durack Civil was engaged by Douglas Shire Council to deliver
multiple packages under the DRFA 2023 Unsealed Roads Program across Bloomfield, Degarra, and the Cape Tribulation–Bloomfield Road corridor in Far North Queensland, following significant damage caused by ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper. The works comprised restoration and rehabilitation of critical transport infrastructure, including heavy formation grading, pavement reconstruction, gravel resheeting, drainage improvements, culvert and table drain reinstatement, repair of washouts and scoured areas, and installation of erosion and batter protection. Additional works within township areas included two-coat bitumen sealing, patching, and replacement of concrete pipes and headwalls. Delivered across remote and environmentally sensitive locations, including areas adjacent to the Daintree Rainforest, the project required careful management of wet season conditions, long-distance material haulage, and limited local support infrastructure. Durack Civil successfully coordinated logistics, traffic management, and environmental controls to maintain access for local communities and tourism operators, ensuring all works were completed in accordance with DRFA, FNQROC, and Council specifications while enhancing long-term network resilience.
