Scope

Durack Civil has been engaged by Douglas Shire Council to deliver the landside infrastructure for the new Daintree River Ferry, replacing and upgrading the existing facilities to address congestion during peak tourism periods and improve service efficiency for regular users. Located within the Daintree in Far North Queensland, the project involves staged delivery of
roadworks, marine works, and associated civil infrastructure across both the northern and southern banks of the Daintree River.

The scope of works includes full site establishment, protection of existing services, and delivery of civil and marine infrastructure, including asphalt roadworks, pedestrian pathways, car and bus
parking, vegetation clearing, ferry anchor points, and a dredge spoil bund. Additional works include relocation of toll booths, installation of boom gates, fencing, signage, speed humps, and provision of essential services such as power, water, and communications. Supporting infrastructure includes bus
shelters, CCTV, and permanent erosion control measures.

Delivered within a World Heritage-listed environment of
significant environmental and cultural value, the project requires stringent environmental management, including erosion and sediment controls. A key operational challenge involves maintaining safe and continuous pedestrian access across the Daintree River during the transition from the existing ferry
to the new service, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity for both residents and visitors throughout construction.
