In the wake of the passing of a community member and during a difficult period for the remote community of Millingimbi in Arnhem Land, local organisation Solid Rootz partnered with Durack Civil to support the community's men's AFL team in travelling to the Barunga Festival community football carnival.
The trip provided players with an opportunity to come together, reconnect and represent their community at a time when many residents were grieving. Community leaders said the chance to compete offered a positive focus and a welcome sense of purpose during a challenging period.
The team wore jerseys bearing the Yolŋu phrase "Dharran limurr wangany’ŋur nha ga dal dhirr nha," which translates to "Standing strong together through the high places and the low places." The message reflects the resilience, unity and shared strength that continues to guide the community through both celebration and hardship.
